Genesis 10: 1: Now these are the generations of the sons of Noah, Shem, Ham, and Japheth: and unto them were sons born after the flood.
Genesis 10: 32: These are the families of the sons of Noah, after their generations, in their nations: and by these were the nations divided in the earth after the flood.
It was through Noah’s three sons, Shem, Ham, and Japheth that the world after the Flood was repopulated and the nations and cultures of the world came into existence. Genesis 10 gives a detailed report on how the nations of the world sprung from Noah’s sons; however, we shall not burden ourselves with an analysis of all its details. Sufficient for now is to understand that the descendants of Shem are largely associated with all of Asia, the descendants of Ham are largely associated with all of Africa, whilst the descendants of Japheth are largely associated with all of Europe.
Of course, there is much overlapping as the descendants of Noah’s sons moved throughout the world, so that by no means can it be said that Shem is strictly Asia, nor Ham strictly Africa, nor Japheth strictly Europe, but that these were the key continents of the globe where their posterity established themselves. To furnish the reader with a small historical note of interest in our conclusion, it was through Shem that the Israelites descended, for he was the father of the nations of the Near East from which Abraham was born.
