Revelation 21: 16: And the city lieth foursquare, and the length is as large as the breadth: and he measured the city with the reed, twelve thousand furlongs. The length and the breadth and the height of it are equal.
The description of the New Jerusalem in Revelation 21 has been a cause of pondering for many as to whether it is an entirely physical city or is simply a symbolic description of the eternal kingdom under the jurisdiction of Christ and His Bride who is also called New Jerusalem (Revelation 21: 9 – 10: And there came unto me one of the seven angels which had the seven vials full of the seven last plagues, and talked with me, saying, Come hither, I will shew thee the bride, the Lamb’s wife. And he carried me away in the spirit to a great and high mountain, and shewed me that great city, the holy Jerusalem, descending out of heaven from God,). For the purpose of this article, we shall consider the city as being a literal structure that Christ and His Bride will dwell in. We shall do this so as to appreciate the enormity of such a city if it shall indeed materialize on the earth.
The great city that John saw descend from Heaven, having equal length, breadth, and height was not a cube, but is a pyramid. This great city will materialize on the restored earth after it has been completely burnt by fire after the Millennium (2 Peter 3: 10; Revelation 20: 11), and will be the habitation or palace of Christ and His Bride for Eternity. What we are reading of here in Revelation 21 is Time and Eternity blending together so that the seventh dimension (or Heaven) becomes explicitly manifest in the physical world.
This great pyramid city will measure approximately 1500 miles (12,000 furlongs) at its base and will have a slant edge of 1500 miles, meaning that the perpendicular height of the city (from its apex to the center of its base) will be approximately 1060 miles. Such a city will be lit by the Shekinah Glory of God whilst the rest of the world experiences day and night as the earth continues to rotate and orbit the sun (Revelation 21: 23). John goes on to give other details of the city that have a combination of spiritual and physical application, however, here we want to devote our focus to the immense size of the structure relative to the planet.
The diameter of the earth is 7926 miles or 12,756 kilometers, whilst the diameter of the earth from pole to pole is a little less, being 7907 miles or 12,725 kilometers. The curvature of our planet is 0.0145 degrees per mile, meaning that over a single mile, the earth curves approximately eight inches. With this information in mind, we shall look at how large the pyramid city is relative to our planet at present. To do this we shall round the earth’s diameter to 7900 miles for a nice clean number to work with relative to the 1500-mile pyramid city. As can be seen in the drawing above, the perpendicular height of the pyramid city reaches 1060 miles or 1705 kilometers into Space, well into Earth’s exosphere, or the farthermost reaches of Earth’s atmosphere.
This great structure shall in no ways upset the delicate balance of the earth, for it must be remembered that Time and Eternity blend together, and Heaven and Earth become one, so that the physical and the supernatural work together in a perfect harmony. This will most likely be a trans dimensional city, meaning that it belongs to Heaven but is visible on the earth and is accessible only to the Bride of Christ because She is of a supernatural glorified body from Heaven, whereas Her subjects shall be in Adamic bodies that belong to the earth only.
