Isaiah 14: 13: For thou hast said in thine heart, I will ascend into heaven, I will exalt my throne above the stars of God: I will sit also upon the mount of the congregation, in the sides of the north:
Psalm 48: 2: Beautiful for situation, the joy of the whole earth, is mount Zion, on the sides of the north, the city of the great King.
Lucifer did not lose his ambition to be equal with God or greater than God when he was cast out of Heaven. The prophets Isaiah and Ezekiel picked up on what lay inside Lucifer’s heart and detailed it for us in the scriptures (Isaiah 14 and Isaiah 28). From what they penned, we learn a little about the economy of Heaven and the geography of the heavenly Eden. But when man fell and the paradisical world he once enjoyed was lost, Lucifer then set about to make his ambition a reality in a fallen world that he had effected.
Much later on in history, David would record poetical words to describe Mount Zion, known then as the City of David or the original Jerusalem. Zion was captured from the Jebusites by David as detailed for us in 2 Samuel 5: 7: Nevertheless David took the strong hold of Zion: the same is the city of David. Today the original city of David or Mount Zion is a hill just outside the walls of the Old City of Jerusalem and is actually much older than the Old City. In time, Zion became a name that referred to the temple on Mount Moriah and its surrounding areas, and later, the name encompassed the entire city of Jerusalem which had expanded well beyond the original site of Mount Zion.
The magnificent temple built by Solomon on Mount Moriah sat to the north of the ancient City of David. Today, the Temple Mount is the site of Islam’s Dome of the Rock, and the ancient City of David has faded into the environs of the modern city of Jerusalem as we know it today.
But Lucifer has not forgotten his claim that he will sit upon the mount of the congregation in the sides of the north. This of course refers to Mount Moriah in our world today, and is the site of the temple of God in Jerusalem, just to the north of the ancient City of David. Mount Moriah was the final location of the tabernacle of the congregation, and became the place of Israel’s appointed times where the Jewish people gathered for their Sabbath festivals, to worship and to sacrifice to the LORD.
As Lucifer prepares to enthrone himself as god of this evil age, he will incarnate himself into the Man of Sin (the Antichrist) and ascend Mount Moriah to sit upon his throne in the Holy of Holies of the Jews’ third temple during the Tribulation period, fulfilling Daniel 11: 45 (And he shall plant the tabernacles of his palace between the seas in the glorious holy mountain; yet he shall come to his end, and none shall help him.) and the words of Paul in 2 Thessalonians 2: 3 – 4: Let no man deceive you by any means: for that day shall not come, except there come a falling away first, and that man of sin be revealed, the son of perdition; Who opposeth and exalteth himself above all that is called God, or that is worshipped; so that he as God sitteth in the temple of God, shewing himself that he is God.
The great controversy that began in Heaven between Michael and Lucifer has manifested itself on the earth as the spiritual battle spilt over into the physical world for absolute control of the Temple Mount. And after Lucifer has enthroned himself in the third temple on the sides of the north, he will find himself bound by a great chain of circumstance, stripping him of his power and influence for a thousand years (Revelation 20: 1 – 3), and the Man of Sin whom he used to exercise his authority through will be cast into the Lake of Fire (Revelation 19: 20). Lucifer’s evil ambition will surely come to naught when Christ arrests his wicked plans at Armageddon, and the Lord Jesus will establish His own glorious kingdom over all the earth.
