Revelation 5: 1: And I saw in the right hand of him that sat on the throne a book written within and on the backside, sealed with seven seals.
The Book which John saw in the right hand of God was actually a rolled-up scroll that had seven seals upon It and represents the Bible. The reading of verse one at first glance seems to imply that the scroll had writing on its inside, and that there is sealed writing on the outside of it, but this is not actually so. Even the prophet of God would say in many places of how the Book had content not even written of in the Bible. The prophet thought this way because of how the text in Revelation 5: 1 reads.
Later on, the prophet realized that this preconception was wrong when the Holy Spirit corrected his understanding of it. This he makes mention of in the message, “Spiritual food in due season” (July 18, 1965), and tells of how he thought that there were things not even wrote of in the Bible, and that those things were sealed on the back of the Book. But God showed him that everything was hidden in the Book, and that the tearing off of the seven seals from the Book is what made known everything that was previously hidden.
Because of how the translators copied the Greek manuscript into English, the placing of the comma in verse one of Revelation five is why the prophet assumed that the scroll had writing on both sides. But let us look at the reading of the verse by shifting the placement of the comma…
The original English rendering of Revelation 5: 1 in our Bibles reads: And I saw in the right hand of him that sat on the throne a book written within and on the backside, sealed with seven seals.
From this we naturally think that the scroll has writing on both sides (writing on the inside and writing on the outside).
But when we move the comma and read Revelation 5: 1 again: And I saw in the right hand of him that sat on the throne a book written within, and on the backside sealed with seven seals.
This changes the meaning of the verse entirely, and shows that the scroll only has writing on the inside, but the writing is hidden away because of the seven seals on the outside of the scroll.
The transcribers made an error in their placing of the comma, which greatly changes the meaning of the verse, for when the comma is shifted back four places, then the verse makes perfect sense and harmonizes with the rest of Revelation in its details about the scroll and the seven seals upon it.
