1 Timothy 2:12-14: But I suffer not a woman to teach, nor to usurp authority over the man, but to be in silence. For Adam was first formed, then Eve. And Adam was not deceived, but the woman being deceived was in the transgression.
God has set up a divine order for a man and a woman regardless of how our modern world would label it as cultural bias. God made Adam first, and then Eve. This was not an accident nor a miscalculation, but was by design, for the man was called to lead, whereas the woman was called to complete the man. Both are a reflection of God in very different ways, and to overturn that order is to challenge the very structure of creation itself. The qualifications of a pastor in the New Testament are not without gender. A pastor is a man; he is to be the husband of one wife and is to manage his household well. The Bible is not unclear about male leadership here, but our modern culture has become uncomfortable with it.
The Church is the Bride, and Christ is the Bridegroom. Pastoral authority symbolizes the relationship between Christ and the Church. To place women as spiritual husbands over the Bride of Christ distorts the very picture God gave to display the Gospel. Jesus chose twelve men to be His apostles, not because women were unworthy of the calling, but because He was establishing a pattern of authority rooted in God’s divine order. Nowhere in scripture do we find a woman serving as pastor, priest, or elder over men.
Whenever the modern church bends scripture to suit the culture of the age, confusion will surely follow. Entire denominations have fractured under the weight of compromise. Rebellion always promises relevance but ultimately ends in ruin. This has nothing to do with value, for women are priceless in God’s kingdom, and their different functions and roles do not devalue them in any way. The headship of the church is not a position to be redefined by emotion or modern ideology. The headship of the church was established by God Himself, and thus a church is healthiest when it functions according to God’s pattern, not by society’s demands.
