And the heaven departed as a scroll when it is rolled together

Revelation 6:14: And the heaven departed as a scroll when it is rolled together; and every mountain and island were moved out of their places.

The day after the end of the sacred Hebrew year is when the Torah scroll, which had been continually unrolled and read on every Sabbath of the year, comes to its end. On that day is when there is a rolling back of all that has been unrolled throughout the year. This special day (the eighth day that follows the final Sabbath of the Hebrew year), or the day after the end, represents the setting in of Eternity upon the earth. What is so fascinating about it is that the last book of the Bible uses the same imagery to describe the end of the age. Under the sixth seal, John described the heaven departing as a scroll when it is rolled together; and then in Revelation 20:11, concerning the end of the present order, John wrote of the earth and the heaven fleeing away. So the old creation passes away, for the scroll is finished, the story is ended, and the day after the end (or Eternity) sets in.

The last words recorded of in the Torah scroll before it is rolled up are about the journey’s end. Moses had ascended the mountain to catch his first glimpse of the Promised Land before he finished up his earthly existence and went to be with God. Whilst Moses was finishing up his earthly journey, the Israelites were finishing up their wilderness journey before they entered into the Promised Land. So the great rolling up of the scroll speaks of the end of our earthly journey, the completion of our earthly existence, the passing away of this world, and the ushering in of the eternal.
