Nine classes of angels

The Bible names nine classes of angelic beings. As to what their exact roles or differences are we may never fully comprehend until we reach Eternity, however, sufficient for now is to see what their names are in the scriptures.

Angels

Archangel (Jude 1:9)

Cherubim (Genesis 3:24)

Dominions (Ephesians 1:21; Colossians 1:16)

Powers (Ephesians 1:21; Ephesians 3:10; Ephesians 6:12; Colossians 1:16)

Principalities (Ephesians 1:21; Ephesians 3:10; Ephesians 6:12)

Seraphim (Isaiah 6:2)

Thrones (Colossians 1:16)

Virtues (called “might” in Ephesians 1:21)
