Jeremiah 49: 38: And I will set my throne in Elam, and will destroy from thence the king and the princes, saith the LORD.
Elam, Media, and Persia were ancient regions spoken of in the Bible that existed in what is now Iran. Iran is an avowed enemy of Israel and a state sponsor of terrorism against Israel and the Jewish people, and has but one objective, to exterminate the Jews and to wipe Israel off the map. As Iran pushes forward to develop a nuclear bomb and prepares itself militarily to strike at Israel, little does its leaders realize that the scriptures have a very different future for Iran that is both devastating and surprising.
Jeremiah 49: 34 – 39 reveals that Elam or Iran will be struck militarily by Israel in the next major Middle East conflict. This will have devastating consequences to the nation, especially if their nuclear reactors are hit, causing radiation to spread throughout the nation, and forcing many Iranians to flee the country and become refugees all over the world (Jeremiah 49: 36). Iran will face this retaliatory strike from Israel described in Jeremiah 49, but then in Ezekiel 38, we find that Iran is among the nations allied with Russia when it invades Israel during the Tribulation (Ezekiel 38: 5: Persia, Ethiopia, and Libya with them; all of them with shield and helmet:). So although Iran is struck hard by Israel, yet it will still try to wage war, resulting in the supernatural destruction of its armies in the land of Israel (Ezekiel 38: 21 – 22; Ezekiel 39: 3 – 4, 17 – 20).
The oppressive Iranian regime and the hatred it spews out against Israel is actually working against itself. The nation is experiencing a tremendous growth of Christianity as large numbers of Iranians find Christ in the most supernatural of ways. But what is more surprising is the prophetic declaration made by Jeremiah that Islam will be defeated and the nation of Iran will become entirely submissive to Christ and acknowledge Him as King.
God will surely set His throne in Elam as He has promised to do, even as He will exercise His righteous dominion over Jerusalem according to Jeremiah 3: 17: At that time they shall call Jerusalem the throne of the LORD; and all the nations shall be gathered unto it, to the name of the LORD, to Jerusalem: neither shall they walk any more after the imagination of their evil heart. A miraculous change will happen to Iran in the Kingdom Age. No longer will it be hostile and raging with hatred, but will be filled with peace, and its people will serve the Lord Jesus who will be reigning over the Middle East and the entire earth as King.
