Esther 8:5: And said, If it please the king, and if I have found favour in his sight, and the thing seem right before the king, and I be pleasing in his eyes, let it be written to reverse the letters devised by Haman the son of Hammedatha the Agagite, which he wrote to destroy the Jews which are in all the king’s provinces:
Esther 8:9-11: Then were the king’s scribes called at that time in the third month, that is, the month Sivan, on the three and twentieth day thereof; and it was written according to all that Mordecai commanded unto the Jews, and to the lieutenants, and the deputies and rulers of the provinces which are from India unto Ethiopia, an hundred twenty and seven provinces, unto every province according to the writing thereof, and unto every people after their language, and to the Jews according to their writing, and according to their language. And he wrote in the king Ahasuerus’ name, and sealed it with the king’s ring, and sent letters by posts on horseback, and riders on mules, camels, and young dromedaries: Wherein the king granted the Jews which were in every city to gather themselves together, and to stand for their life, to destroy, to slay, and to cause to perish, all the power of the people and province that would assault them, both little ones and women, and to take the spoil of them for a prey,
The Book of Esther records of how a Persian official hatched a plan to destroy the Jewish people. The government official was Haman whose hatred of the Jews would materialize in the construction of gallows upon which Mordecai (the leader of the Jewish people in Persia) was to be hung.
The threat that once existed in Persia for the destruction of the Jewish people has manifested again in our day. The nation of Persia was renamed in 1935, and is known today as Iran. Modern Iran is the most anti-Israel state on earth and is the world’s number one terror state. As Haman was an evil man in the Persian government who sought the destruction of the Jewish people, so the officials of the Iranian government are evil men who have vowed to bring about the destruction of the modern state of Israel.
It was Haman who devised the construction of gallows upon which to hang Mordecai. And today, we regularly see in the world news of how the Iranian government has constructed modern gallows in the form of a nuclear program in their attempt to build nuclear weapons to obliterate the nation of Israel from off the world map. The nuclear reactors that Iran is building are a high-tech version of the gallows Haman had built for Mordecai long ago. Like the gallows of Haman, the Iranians are building an instrument of death to bring about the destruction of the Jewish people.
But it was Esther who appealed to the king for his help to avert the planned destruction of her people. As queen, Esther was the representative of the Jewish people, and when she approached the king, she was in talks with a Gentile leader of the major world power at that time. As Esther appealed to a Gentile world leader to help avert the destruction that was coming, so the Prime Minister of Israel, Benjamin Netanyahu, appealed to Donald Trump, the Gentile leader of a major world power (America), asking for help to avert the threat of destruction from Iran.
Esther was the cousin of Mordecai who was a Benjamite (Esther 2:5) and was behind Esther’s pleading to the king for the overthrow of Haman’s wicked scheme. As it was those connected with the name of Benjamin who spoke to a Gentile world leader on the behalf of the Jewish people, so it was a man by the name of Benjamin (Netanyahu) who represented the Jewish people in his request for help from President Trump.
The king agreed to help Esther, and wrote a declaration of the Jews’ right to rise up and defend their lives against the Persian threat. Likewise, President Trump agreed to assist Israel in its right to rise up and defend the lives of the Jewish people from the Iranian threat. The combined military action to take out the Iranian nuclear sites was called Operation Rising Lion by the Israelis, and Operation Midnight Hammer by the Americans.
The king’s decree authorizing the right for the Jewish people to defend their lives and eliminate any threat against them was given on Sivan 23 of the Jewish calendar (Esther 8:9). On our modern calendar, Sivan 23 equates to sundown of June 18 to sundown of June 19. According to reports, it was on June 18, 2025 that President Trump made a decision about the U.S. getting involved in the conflict that had begun on June 13 in a series of pre-emptive Israeli strikes against Iran. The next day, on June 19, President Trump made a public announcement, saying that he would decide on the proper course of action concerning U.S. involvement within two weeks. His public announcement to make a decision within two weeks was just to throw off the Iranians with regard to the fact that the decision had already been made.
The 12-Day War or Operation Rising Lion began on June 13 and lasted until June 24. The war opened with a surprise attack in the form of Israeli airstrikes against key military and nuclear reactor sites inside Iran. The Americans also performed airstrikes on three Iranian nuclear facilities under the codename Operation Midnight Hammer on June 22. No wonder that when Mordecai went out from the presence of the king after securing victory in the form of a documented decree nullifying the enemy’s plan, that he was dressed in royal apparel of blue and white (Esther 8:15), for these are the colours of the Israeli flag and were the insignia colours painted on the Israeli fighter jets (a solid blue star on a solid white circular background) that struck down the nuclear facilities in Iran.
